September 24, 2002 Barley Therapy and fund-raiser.

Happy blurry Airheads with Barley Beverages and munchies.Clockwise from left:
Steffi, Lawrence, Martin, Ben, Warren, Roger, Colin, Coop, and Sean.
All blurry from the theraputic barley.

Sorry to interrupt the reverie of tappet adjustment, carb needle-blowing and main-seal moaning, but this evening AirHead Ben Woodeson of Glasgow (Scotland) was the guest at table of the Southern Ontario AirHeads, which took place at Mr. Slate on Kingston Road. Some came on bikes, some by car, some on foot.

A good time was enjoyed by all, especially listening to Ben regale us with stories of installation art he does, requiring up to 700 tins of crushed tomatoes. (Contact him off-LIST for ideas, recipes, etc..) His 100 mile and hour dash across Denmark to make a booked ferry-sailing is enough to make what's left of yer hair stand up on the ol' toupee parking lot.

As dinner was proceeding, Carol Baker became the object of affectionate conversation, as a card was passed around for all to sign. Why stop at AirHeads, eh? Why, indeed. So, other patrons of the bar were invited to sign a "Card in support of the Birth-Day of Carol, the AirHead Mistress and Whip-Master". I gently approached the first bar-client, explaining the offer of participation, and solicited a signature. A guffaw, a snort, and finally "Sure, why not?". Ten patrons later, and a lot of explaining, a few creative outright fabrications, two real lies and one real whopper (concerning who and how the cable is used upon the willing, or not, trussed just so, eh, buddy); well, another ten signatures were added to the card. So Carol, it is coming your way. Happy birthday. Make a joyful noise! Ben was goggle-eyed. Damn, Canadians ARE friendly. And a bit nuts?

Sean Weaver joined us for (I think) the first time ever for him at an AirHead event. Welcome, Sean!

OUR CHALLENGE TO ALL AIRHEADS, WORLDWIDE: We passed the helmet and collected $130, to be passed on to Simon Milward for his charitable work setting up motorcycle clinics in the third world. His work has been described by 'Bubba' Clinton, Lawrence Hogarth and others, and Simon has presented information nights at the last BMWMOA in Trenton (in AirHead Central, of course), and is about to, or has just, done so for the San Diego AirHeads. Support has been VERY strong. Our challenge to other AirHeads, individually and at your meetings, is to raise money for Simon, at the rate of the cost of a match from each person for the first good drink they have at the event. (A bottle of beer, glass of wine, good slug of scotch or a two-litre carton of 2% milk (for friends of Bill W.)

Simon's page is at: http://www.millennium-ride.com/diary/Diary.html, which will include information on precisely how to donate. (His is a registered Charity in Canada, and simillarly registered in the US.)

How about it, AirHeads? Perhaps the braver ones amongst us will, next time a firearm is purchased, make a simillar donation to Simon? Or turn in a firearm and make a donation to him? Truly, friends, make swords into ploughshares. We can do this. (I used to live in VERY rural Nigeria, and can attest to the value and impact that people like Simon have.)

So ... a successful BT, with a good time had by all. Ben strongly welcomed. Bar patrons astonished. Stories swapped.

Regards to the whole LIST ...
