'Bino Tech...

Lawrence & BinoThat's Lawrence and Bino.

Saturday, Jan. 11/03 saw a productive and well attended (20 of us when I bailed at 11:00 am! - sb) Tech-Day hosted by Bino Piasentin in Waterdown: Thanks for your hospitality Bino. It was great to see everyone and meet some new faces. George Small from T.O. and Tony Thompson from Oakville: welcome aboard and hope to see more of you.

Lots of activity and production on a variety of projects and complete running bikes. Al Benvenuti deserves an optimism award for the insurance write-off resurrection project he's undertaken. Colin's R75/6 remains as spotless as ever. Lighten up Colin, yer makin us look bad. Bino's engine unravelling just gets better all the time.... but we'll have him sorted out before spring. Fraser's top end seems to require similar attention but it's nothing Airhead's can't handle with an afternoon in Paul's garage in February.... Which brings us to the next topic.......

Dan helps Colin.Dan Klestorny helps Colin Vos with his bevel drive spline advice.

Mark yer calendars...Saturday February 22.... Tech Supreme with Dr. Bike.... Paul Farrauto in Ancaster.... Come early for the best tools.... The Doctor will be IN.... Bring anything you've got on the go.... We'll squeeze it all in somehow.... Start ordering your parts now..... hint hint....

During the day several of us decided it's time to get organised with our airhead spare parts and special tools etc.... Many even offered spare parts for Airhead use.... So the idea hatched for an Airhead parts pool. John Snider, for instance, has offered the use (for trouble shooting purposes) of all the major components of an airhead charging system.... This'll aid members in ciphering what's becoming the most common cause of airhead failure. Thanks John. Sean Weaver offered an interesting array of parts, and I know I have stuff in my garage I'd never miss etc....

Here's the loose plan: If you've got parts you'd like to add to the Ontario Airheads Parts Bank, simply send me a list and I'll keep track of what we've got. (Maybe ask Scott if there's room on the Ontario Airhead's website for a members only section to post the list? : ) (I'll look into it - sb) Hang onto your parts, simply let us know what you have available. Then, when someone needs something in a pinch, we could simply check the list and contact the willing donor.... I'm not suggesting we use this resource as an alternative to parts purchase, but rather to facilitate emerg fixes etc, when parts sources are not readily available. Of course, there'll be plenty of surplus stuff just looking for a good home too, and those we'd encourage be used. Let yer conscience be yer guide etc.....

Okay, here's the catch.... I'm going to suggest, and it was roundly deemed to be good and fair when discussed at Bino's yesterday... That only dues paying members of the Airheads Beemer Club be permitted to access the Ontario Airheads Parts Bank.... If this sticks in yer craw and yer feelin ripped, lem'me know and we'll see if we can't work out a way fer you to scrape up the measly $22us a year it'd take fer you to pay annual dues.... Think it's time for some of us to pony up folks.... I know my dues expired this month.... Membership info can be found at www.airheads.org

Anyhow, good seeing everyone yesterday and hope to see many of you in February at Paul's. Especially if you bring something for the fridge or the food table. hint: Airheads seem to like bbq's, beers, salads, coffee, soft drinks etc.... See you then!
